Especially if you do not have children of your own. A great start, Be available to make conversation with them. Kids don’t usually make plans to have conversations with us Adults, We have to be available to them in order to stimulate conversation with the child. If we’re with them, we’re bound to hear what they have to say. Children are very immediate, when it comes to their feelings & emotions, When a child wants to talk, make yourself available. Create space to have conversations with them, prepare yourself. Resist the urge to correct the child in the conversation, if a child is telling you something inaccurate, ask the child what does he or she thinks happened, so that way, they can express their thoughts. Draw out their curiosity, rather then forcing on them, an accurate explanation. You can fact check afterwards, also be interested and into what their into, their likes and dislikes. Watch something together with the child, and ask open ended questions, relating to kids nowadays is a challenge, these few techniques can apply to help engage a conversation with 4-15 year olds.
